About This Ghat
Dashashwamedh Ghat (दशाश्वमेध घाट) is the main and probably oldest ghat of Varanasi. According to legend, Lord Brahma created it to welcome Lord Shiva and performed Dasha-Ashwamedha (ten horse sacrifice) here. This ghat is famous for its spectacular Ganga Aarti performed every evening. It is a major center for pilgrims to perform various Hindu rituals including Tarpan, Shraddh, and sacred baths.
