About Akshayavat (Akshayvat)

Akshayavat is an immortal banyan tree located near Vishnupad Temple in Gaya.
The name literally means "immortal banyan" - "Akshaya" (immortal) and "Vat" (banyan tree).
This ancient tree is one of the most important sites for performing Shraddh rituals.

Pilgrims perform pind daan under this sacred tree, believing that their ancestors will attain
salvation. The tree is considered indestructible and eternal.

Religious Significance

According to Hindu scriptures, performing Shraddh under Akshayavat is extremely
meritorious. The Puranas mention that the tree has been standing since the beginning of creation
and will remain until the end of time. Lord Buddha is also said to have meditated under this tree
before attaining enlightenment in Bodh Gaya.
