About Har Ki Pauri

Har Ki Pauri (Steps of Lord Shiva) is the most sacred ghat in Haridwar, located
on the banks of the River Ganges. This is where the Ganges leaves the mountains and enters the plains.
A footprint of Lord Vishnu, embedded in a stone wall, marks the exact spot considered most auspicious.

The evening Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri is a spectacular ceremony that attracts thousands of devotees
and tourists daily. The ghat is a primary location for asthi visarjan (immersion of ashes) and
performing tarpan for ancestors.

Religious Significance

Har Ki Pauri is one of the five sacred places (Panch Tirths) of Haridwar. It is
believed that taking a holy dip here washes away all sins. The Kumbh Mela, held every 12 years,
centers around this ghat. According to legend, a drop of Amrit (nectar of immortality) fell here
when it was being carried by the celestial bird Garuda.
