About Triveni Sangam
Triveni Sangam is the sacred confluence of three rivers - Ganga, Yamuna, and the
mythical Saraswati. This is one of the holiest places in Hinduism and the site of the Kumbh Mela,
the world's largest religious gathering.
The Sangam is considered the most powerful location for performing Shraddh and tarpan. Pilgrims
take boats to the center of the confluence where the waters of all three rivers meet, to perform
rituals and take a holy dip.
Religious Significance
Prayagraj is considered the "Tirth Raj" (King of all pilgrimage sites). The
Matsya Purana states that bathing at the Sangam during the Magh month is equivalent to performing
a thousand Ashwamedha yagyas and a hundred Vajpeya yagyas.
For ancestral rites, Prayagraj is considered second only to Gaya. It is believed that souls
liberated here proceed directly to the highest heaven.
