About Varanasi - Manikarnika Ghat

Manikarnika Ghat is the principal cremation ghat of Varanasi and one of the oldest ghats in the world. According to Hindu belief, those cremated here attain immediate moksha (liberation from the cycle of rebirth).

The sacred fire at Manikarnika is said to have been burning for thousands of years. This is the most sacred place for Antim Sanskar (last rites) in Hinduism.
