Nagbali
नागबलि
Ritual to remove the curse of killing snakes.
About This Ritual
Nagbali is a specific ritual performed to remove the sin and curse
(Naga Dosha) arising from the killing of snakes, especially cobras. According to Hindu
belief, harming snakes can lead to various problems including childlessness, skin diseases,
and obstacles in life.
The ritual involves:
1. Creation of a snake effigy from dough or metal
2. Elaborate worship of Naga Devatas (snake deities)
3. Homa (fire ceremony) with specific mantras
4. Symbolic funeral rites for the snake
5. Offerings and prayers for forgiveness
The ritual is often performed in conjunction with Narayanbali when families face multiple
spiritual obstacles.
