Pitru Paksha
The most auspicious period of the Hindu calendar to perform Shraddh and honor your ancestors
What is Pitru Paksha?
Pitru Paksha is a sacred 16-day period in the Hindu lunar calendar (Bhadrapada month, typically September-October) when ancestors are remembered and honored through rituals and offerings. According to Hindu tradition, during this period, the souls of ancestors descend to earth and visit their descendants.
Performing Shraddh during Pitru Paksha is considered extremely auspicious. It brings peace to the departed souls and helps them attain moksha (liberation). This is the most important time for ancestral remembrance in the Hindu calendar.
